Smashco Hosting F.A.Q.
1. What's a Unique Domain Name? An example of a domain name is 'smashco.com'. Note that a domain name does not include any defined subdomain, such as 'www.' or 'ftp.'. A unique domain name is one that is not already in existence. Some hosting services offer subdomain hosting, such as anything.hostingcompany.com. This is not a unique domain name, but a unique subdomain name within the larger domain 'hostingcompany.com'. 2. What is POP3 Mailbox Access?POP3 (Post Office Protocol 3) is the most recent version of a standard protocol for receiving e-mail. POP3 is a client/server protocol in which e-mail is received and held for you by an Internet server. Periodically, you (or your client e-mail application) querry the appropriate mail server for any new mail. If new mail exists, it is downloaded to your e-mail client. An alternative to using the Smashco POP servers is having your e-mail forwarded to some already existing mailbox on a different mail server. 3. Disk space? Disk space where? The amount of given disk space applies to all domain information, including web pages and e-mail, that currently reside on the Smashco web and mail servers. We do ask that you remove your e-mail from our servers when you succesfully retrieve it with your POP client. More disk space is available if you need it. Please contact the webmaster if you'd like to increase your current disk space. 4. What does Data transfer mean? This is defined as the number of gigabytes of information requested in one month by the users who visit your website. For example, if your entire website was a total of 6mb, it would require 512 visitors, each one viewing every page on your website to total 3 GB of transferred data. hosting_faq.asp © 1999-2002 |
